In order to comply with the Code of Virginia § 47.1-2, proper identification is required for all notarizations.
All forms of identification must be current / valid and contain:
The name of the individual signing the document
Photograph of the subject individual
Your general physical description (height, weight, eye color, etc.)
Your signature
A serial or identifying number (Drivers license number, passport number, etc.)
Acceptable forms of ID:
ID card or driver's license issued by any state in the U.S. or a U.S. Territory.
United Stated Passport (booklet or card)
A foreign government passport, provided that it has been stamped by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service or the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
Driver's license issued in Canada or Mexico {Mexican Driver's Licenses can be Federal, State, or Municipal (State of Guerrero)]
United States Military ID card with the required elements listed above. Common Access Cards (CACs) DO NOT meet the Identification requirement
Inmate IS issues by an agency or office of the Commonwealth of Virginia (if inmate is in custody) - NO wristbands
Employee ID issued by an agency or office of the Commonwealth of Virginia or of a county or city of the Commonwealth (subject to verification and provided it contains the required information listed above)
Unacceptable forms of ID - THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS:
Social Security Cards
Permanent Resident Cards (Green Cards)
Border Crossing Cards (B1/B2 Visa or BCC)
US Citizen/Resident Citizen Identification Cards (Form I-197 or I-179)
Marticular Consular Cards from Mexico (or any other consulate registration card)
DoD CAC
Credit/Debit card
Medical/Dental insurance card
Law Enforcement or any other agency badge (some accompanying ID cards are acceptable)
Student ID cards
Employee ID Cards (Except as allowed above)
Clergy identification cards or other religious documents
